ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ann Arbor-based manufacturer Watermaster North America (WMNA) has produced its first US-built AMD 5000 Amphibious Multipurpose Dredging machine at Moran Iron Works (MIW) in Onaway, MI.

This unique Finnish-engineered dredger has been sold worldwide for 30+ years in over 70 countries, however not in the US, due to an import policy called the Jones Act. But now that the Watermaster is made in the US, it is a fully Jones Act-compliant vessel, and available for purchase throughout the country.

This machine represents technology never seen before in the US, and offers a new approach to waterways maintenance, environmental remediation, shoreline stabilization, and marine construction – all from a single platform, replacing multiple pieces of other equipment.

Watermaster North America enlisted Moran Iron Works to build the US hull and assemble the machine at their plant in Onaway, and anticipates considerable growth within the US market as more and more marine and waterways management agencies become aware of the AMD 5000’s unique capabilities.

Jonathan Dreyfuss, President of the Ann Arbor-based company, said, “We cannot be more pleased with MIW. This machine not only brings new technology to the marine services and environmental remediation industry, but once we are in serial production, making it here will ultimately mean new manufacturing jobs for Michigan. We anticipate a long relationship with MIW as we introduce this machine across the US and Canada as a new means of addressing the increasingly necessary maintenance and remediation of waterways."

About Watermaster North America
Watermaster North America (WMNA) was founded by brothers Jonathan and Peter Dreyfuss in 2019 after receiving license to manufacture and sell the Watermaster AMD 5000 Amphibious Multipurpose Dredging machine in both the US and Canada. WMNA’s dredger is the American version of a vessel designed by Aquamec, in Finland, which has been sold worldwide for over thirty years.
